Looking at the weather forecast this week for the Northeast compared to Texas, I feel very fortunate to be enjoying the Texan winter, especially this week! Whilst some of our friends, family, and program alumni living in New York presently suffer under severe winter blizzard conditions, we are sitting outside enjoying our sunny and mild winter weather, riding our bikes, enjoying Rice's heated, outdoor, olympic-sized swimming pool or strolling across our beautiful campus! Despite all this wonderful distraction, we do get a lot done, students are enrolled in courses and are settling into their new spring schedules. Speakers are lined up for our various seminar series and we are in high-gear preparing for the annual PSM Board of Affiliates Meeting and the newly combined corporate reception for science and engineering.
We are looking forward to welcoming representatives from the EPA, Chevron, Microseismic, Hess Corporation, U.S. Business Council for Sustainable Development, Schlumberger, ENI Petroleum, Apache, Enventure, Texas Heart Institute, Boeing, Southwest Nanotechnologies, Texas Healthcare and Bioscience Institute, Baker Hughes Technology Center, National Space Biomedical Research Institute, Nanolinea, and Jacobs Engineering to our seminar series this spring.

With a focus on Rice undergrad students we are spreading the word about opportunities for Rice students to line their study plans up to create a pathway into our professional master's degree which - with good planning - they could finish
in a 5th
year of studies at Rice, completing their B.S. and their M.S. degrees back-to-back.
We also have seen a higher interest in our dual
PSM/MBA tracks by incoming students who have to apply to both programs at the same time to be able to qualify for this opportunity.
