Unlike traditional master's degrees, these degrees combine an interdisciplinary curriculum with business training and hands-on experience, enabling graduates to acquire a new "tool-set" for success in a business environment.

Why Rice's Professional Science Master's Program was right for me

What's New

This month is busy with the admission processes for incoming fall 2015 students and the preparation of our Preview Days. Prospective students are invited to campus to learn more about the programs, meet the faculty and tour the campus.

The program has open enrollment and interested applicants still have time to apply. There is no application fee for our programs.

Corporate relationship building is an ongoing process for our programs. Students and staff attended events offering them networking opportunities and corporate outreach. Rice also held several career fairs focusing on government, non-profit and start-up companies and organizations.

February was also a busy month for professional master's students in science and engineering at Rice. Outside of classes we had many networking events, luncheons and workshops in session with the annual Corporate Reception being the most important one for students seeking internships. With over 350 people attending we filled the Baker Institute's lobby and Dore Commons. Guests commented about the excellent turnout, the nice atmosphere and the good conversations they had with our students, faculty and board members.

The seminars series have welcomed so far representatives from the EPA, Chevron, Microseismic, Hess Corporation, U.S. Business Council for Sustainable Development, Schlumberger, and the remainder of the series includes speakers from ENI Petroleum, Apache, Enventure, Texas Heart Institute, Boeing, Southwest Nanotechnologies, Texas Healthcare and Bioscience Institute, Baker Hughes Technology Center, National Space Biomedical Research Institute, Nanolinea, and Jacobs Engineering.

Application have been coming in to our various programs at a steady path and domestic students receiving offer letters will be invited to our annual Preview Days at the end of March. If you have questions about the application process, do not hesitate to contact us!

With a focus on Rice undergrad students we are spreading the word about opportunities for Rice students to line their study plans up to create a pathway into our professional master's degree which - with good planning - they could finish in a 5th year of studies at Rice, completing their B.S. and their M.S. degrees back-to-back.

We also have seen a higher interest in our dual PSM/MBA tracks by incoming students who have to apply to both programs at the same time to be able to qualify for this opportunity.

Corporate support is essential for the program and its students and we like to encourage others to follow Chevron's and Schlumberger's example of supporting an education that prepares students for positions in industry and business.
