Ryan JarvisRyan Jarvis
 

Mr. Jarvis graduated from BrighamYoung University in Utah receiving a bachelor of science in computer science, and a minor in business management in 2002, and a master’s degree in Computer Science in 2003. After graduation, Ryan started to work as a Research Application Developer at ExxonMobil where he is still employed. Through his work experience he had to assist in the process of finding and producing natural resources.  Ryan had to obtain domain knowledge around geology and reservoir engineering to be able to create applications that model the subsurface of the earth, this spurred his desire to increase his skills in subsurface geosciences and  to pursue his graduate studies at Rice.

 Shibu Mathukutty
Mr. Mathukutty received his bachelor of science degree in Geosystems Engineering and Hydrogeology from the University of Texas Petroleum & Geosystems Engineering Dept in Austin, Texas in 2005. Shibu worked his way through college and has extensive job experience with geo-related companies. Before joining the Subsurface Geoscience program he held a position as Geologic Engineer with Quicksilver Resources, Inc. gaining experience in subsurface geologic mapping, seismic interpretation, horizontal well completions, log analysis, drilling operations and geographic information systems.
Shibu’s goal is to increase his technical skills to be able to advance his career.

 Hyangseon Park
 

Ms. Park graduated from PusanNation University in Busan, Korea in 1990 with a bachelor of science degree in microbiology. She has been employed at Korea Gas Corporation, the biggest liquefied natural gas importer and distributor in the world, where she worked as part of the company’s management information system team, and their investment planning department.  Hyangseon decided to undertake graduate studies at Rice University to upgrade her capabilities as a technical expert and receive a broad-based knowledge of geology for the E&P business. Her focus is on deepening her knowledge in upstream processes, geological structures, seismic and geophysical methods, and feasibility studies of petroleum projects.

 Travis Stolldorf
 

Mr. Stolldorf received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska in 2001. Following his graduation, Travis spent seven years in the financial services industry. He successfully owned and operated two small businesses, gaining valuable leadership and entrepreneurial skills, and reaching relative financial independence. This allowed Travis to finally follow his true interest  in geology. He deepened his knowledge by attending courses in geosciences offered through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, enabling him to consider graduate studies at Rice University. Travis is focused on increasing his knowledge in subsurface geosciences for energy exploration and production.

 Julian Talley
Mr. Talley graduated with a bachelor of science in Geophysics from University of Texas in Austin in 2008. Julian spent three years in the army and fought as a team leader in a combat unit in the Afghanistan war. After graduation from UT, he accepted a position as geophysicist at Petroleum Geo Services. Julian joined Rice University to increase his technical knowledge and focus on petroleum geophysics, to advance his career in the oil- and gas industry.

 Grace Zhang
Ms. Zhang received a B.S. degree in Solid Geophysics from Peking University, China in 2000, and a Master of Science degree in Exploration geophysics in 2003. After graduation, Grace joined the CNPC/BGP Research Center in China, based on her performance, the research center reappointed her to work at their facility in Houston where she is testing and evaluating newly developed modules of migration and coherent noise attenuation. She decided to join the Subsurface Geoscience program at Rice University on a part-time basis to better prepare herself for a higher career in geophysics.

Brian Cornette

In 2007, Mr. Cornette graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Geology from University of Texas. He was accepted to the thesis-based Master of Science degree program at Rice’s Earth Science department in 2007, however, decided to transfer to the more interdisciplinary Professional Master’s program which allowed him to gain technical knowledge and practical experience for employment in the oil and gas industry. Brian is currently seeking a position in the oil- and gas industry.

Liang Ge

Mr. Ge arrives at Rice University with a degree in Geophysics from the University of Science and Technology of China in Beijing received in 2004. Mr. Ge conducted an undergrad research project in Geosciences during his junior year, and accumulated work experience at the Beijing Basic International Business Consultation Co. where he worked for three years after his graduation. His strong interest in the geophysics and the oil and gas industry led him to the Subsurface Geoscience program at Rice where he seeks to deepen his knowledge in geophysics. Liang was the recipient of a Conoco Phillips Scholarship Award. Liang is conducting his internship with Baker Hughes.

Ting Hong

Ms. Hong received a bachelor’s degree in 2002 and a master’s degree in 2005 in Geography from Northeast Normal University in China. She was accepted into a PhD program at Texas State University in San Marcos and studied there for the last two years. As Ms. Hong is planning to pursue a career in industry she decided to continue her studies in the Professional Master’s Program at Rice. Ting accepted an internship with Teledrill, Inc. in Katy, Texas.

Kyungnam Ko

Mr. Ko graduated from Chunam University in Korea with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1995. After graduation, Kyungnam spent six months in Canada to study English, and after his return he accepted employment with Korea Gas Corporation, a leading energy resource company in Korea. After 11 years of work experience, Mr. Ko wants to achieve deeper knowledge in the discovery of new energy sources, natural gas production and development, and gas formation. He focuses on geology with the goal to return to his company and lead their energy source discovery initiative.

  Chris.Ochterbeck
Chris Ochterbeck

Mr. Ochterbeck attended UC Santa Barbara and received his B.S. in Physical Geography in 2006. Since graduation he has been working for Landmark Graphics, Houston in his client’s real-time well design, execution, and collaboration center supporting both deep-water Gulf of Mexico and Brazil planning and drilling operations. Mr. Ochterbeck recently co-authored a technical paper on the benefits of early collaboration among drilling engineers and earth scientists when designing and operating complex wells. He is attending the program part-time focusing on Geology and is completing his internship project with Chevron. Chris was the recipient of a BP Scholarship Award.

  Greg.Shipman

Greg Shipman

Mr. Shipman received a B.A. in Geography and History from University of Texas in 2006.  It is his goal to equip himself with the skills and knowledge needed to combine his geography and GIS background with geoscience elements such as seismology to more effectively explore for and develop oil and gas resources.  He is currently employed with ExxonMobil and is attending the program on a part-time basis.

Gisselle Cornejo

Ms. Cornejo received her Bachelor's of Science degree from the Universidad Niacional San Agustin, Peru in Geopbnysical Science in 1998.  She worked as a research assistant at the Geophysical Institute of Peru and started her professional career as a junior geopnysicist in their Exploration Department in Lima/Peru, Bogota/Colombia and Houston/USA.  Gisselle planned to focus on geophysics and the optimization of seismic images. She conducted her internship with Nobel Energy in Houston, Texas.

Joe Mills

Mr. Mills earned a B.A. degree in English, Creative Writing, and Geology at the University of Arizona in 2004.  He has worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Arizona as a wildland firefighter for the last seven seasons.  His emphasis is on developing his practical and intellectual capabilities in science with a focus on geology and also expanding his communication and business skills for a career in exploration and extraction of natural resources. Joe accepted an internship with Schlumberger.

Glennis Claxton

Ms. Claxton graduated from University of the West Indies with a Geology degree in 2002. She has been working for the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries  in Trinidad since her graduation and had the opportunity to be involved in reservoir management, geoscience studies, data interpretation, map construction, and seismic interpretations. Glennis intends to deepen her science background and update her skill set to become a better geologist and regulator. She has received a scholarship that includes an internship with ConocoPhillips during the summer, and also participated in a second internship with Anadarko in Fall 2007. Glennis accepted employment with ConocoPhillips in Midland, Texas.

Jeremy Mardambek

Mr. Mardambek earned a degree in Petroleum Engineering from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro, New Mexico in 2006. Jeremy's previous work experience includes working in the reservoir engineering department of Yates Petroleum using different computer programs to forecast and model production. Jeremy intends to focus on Geophysics to supplement his background in petroleum engineering. Jeremy accepted two internships, one with BHP Billiton and one with Baker Hughes. After graduation, Jeremy accepted employment with ConocoPhillips, and is currently working for them in Anchorage, Alaska.

Danny Reed

Mr. Reed graduated from Loughborough University in Leicestershire, England with a Mechanical Engineering degree in 2005. During his last year of studies he got involved with a project measuring drill-string vibrations in bottom hole assemblies for National Oilwell Corporation. This project increased his interest in geology and geophysics leading him to deepen his education in this area. Danny completed internships with Baker Hughes and Hilcorp and intends to pursue a career within the oil and gas industry. Danny has been interning with Hilcorp, Inc., Baker Hughes and Shell Oil. After his graduation, Danny accepted employment with Shell.

Adriana
Valerio

Ms. Valerio graduated with a bachelor's in geophysics engineering from Universidad Simon Bolivar in 2000. Adriana started working at Halliburton Energy Services in Venezuela as a Geoscientific Technician and Business Development Assistant. In 2000, she was transferred to Houston to work for Landmark Graphics Corporation, a Halliburton subsidiary, where she worked as a Geology and Geophysics consultant. In 2005, Adriana accepted a position as Geophysicist with Occidential Oil and Gas Corporation. She is pursuing the master's degree to advance her career in the oil industry as an exploration geophysicist and project manager. In 2007, Adriana resigned from her position to finish her graduate studies full-time. She interned with Marathon Oil.

Sylvia Centanni


Ms. Centanni earned a B.S. in Geology in 1975 and a master’s in environmental science in 1999. She came to Rice with over twenty years experience in domestic and international oil and gas exploration, development geology, and interpretation geophysics. She wanted to round out her education by completing her industrial training in geophysics.  Sylvia accepted employment with Schlumberger after her graduation..

Shawna McLallen



Ms. McLallen was our first student attempting to achieve a five-year combined BS/MS degree plan. She finished her B.S. in Geophysics in spring 2005 and started to take courses required by our PSM program in fall 2004. She graduated in December 2005 with an M.S. in Subsurface Geoscience. Her ultimate goal was to find a position in seismic processing which she successfully reached by securing a position with Anadarko Petroleum. 

In April 2007. Shawna accepted a job offer from StatoilHydro to work for them as a Geoscientist for their GoM Exploration Division.

Ndubuisi Nebo

Mr. Nebo graduated in 1995 with a B.S. in Electronic Engineering from the University of Nigeria.  Before entering the Professional Master’s Program, he worked as a database administrator for seven producing and drilling platforms in Nigeria.  He intended to focus on Geophysics within the Subsurface Geoscience track. Nd completed his internship with Total E&P and is now working for Landmark, a Halliburton company.

George.Bunge
George Bunge

Mr. Bunge earned B.A. degrees in Geology and History from Northwestern University in 1990. He received a B.S. in Geology from University of Houston in 1996, and was awarded a Hydrogeology Certification in 2005. He has been employed with Schlumberger for the last nine years working with seismic data processing, velocity and seismic inversion for elastic attributes. During last three years he has worked in Reservoir Seismic Services as a reservoir geophysicist. Managing a number of seismic inversion projects. George attends the program on a part-time basis with a focus on geophysics.
